Trees

I'm busy at the moment doing some rather dull 2D work. So I thought I'd post an older piccy I did in Vue Infinite a while back, did a bit of Photoshop work on this too.

Radiosity Test

Done in Vue 5 Infinite, just testing out Vue's Radiosity features.

Low Poly Environment

I started this maybe 2 and a half years back in Max 5, every now and again I add a bit to it, not 100% sure what it's meant to be or will end up being.

Syringes and pills

I made this stuff 5 or 6 months back to help out a mate with a project he was doing. The Syringe model was around 6000 poly's. It was only after I'd done this render that I realised that I hadn't place the front of the Syringe on the ground,it's just horizontal with the bit at the back of the Syringe where you place your fingers, so the front is floating a bit... oh well !!

Ruined Cityscape

This scene (The top picture) took about 1 hour to set up light and texture and has 46,895,810 Polygons in it, built in Vue Infinite it took about 2 hours to render at 1600 x 1200 pixels, I did a bit of Photoshop work to it also. The re-lit version took about the same time to render. Blogger won't let me load the bigger versions so I've loaded 1024 x 768 versions.

Attic Bedroom

I made this model around 2 years ago as a favour for Niel at Qurios Entertainment, it featured in one shot at the end of a music video that they did. The video was for the song Hungry Eyes by the group Eyeopener. The Blanket on the bed was just a temporary object I made, the guys at Qurios did the final one as there was a kid asleep in the bed in the actual video. Also the picture on the wall, the Pig Pile by Curtis Jobling wasn't in the final vid, I just put it in for my initial build. I belive this room has been used again in a sequel video that Qurios have done called Angel Eyes for the same group. I get royalties everytime they use this so there's 10p in the bank already. :)

The scene was made and rendered in Vue Infinite.

The Outsiders - Fort Kerris Part 2

Here are 3 closer views of the Fort Kerris model. It was never meant to be seen as close as some of these pics show. But still needed details to give the place realism. I think one of the worst parts to do were the large textures for the island floors, these couldn't be made like the tower etc... from pics taken on location because there was no way to get high enough with the camera to take any good pics, so I used the photo's we had as reference and built these using an assortment of textures that looked close to what was actually at the location in Liverpool.

The Outsiders - Fort Kerris

Here are 4 of my renders of the CG Model that I made for ITV's The Outsiders. The live action shoot for this sequence took place at 'Salisbury Dock' in Liverpool, a brief history of which can be seen lower down this page.

When Niel from Qurios contacted me during the summer he already had a whole bunch of stills taken by Matt Turner, also from Qurios, to show me what needed building. I also travelled over to Liverpool with Niel one day while they were shooting various parts of the live-action to get more reference photos and get a feel for the actual place. The job was to take the Clock Tower and surrounding area which sits in the dockland and make it look like it was a Sea Fort out in the middle of the Outer Hebrides somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean. The whole island was built as a CG location to match up with the real location, the parts of the island we didn't see in the live action we expanded upon, adding some wartime pill boxes and other details. There's even a Portaloo, the orange box on the far right of picture 3. The Clock Tower, or Victoria Tower as it's known was modelled first, this was chopped into around 1000 parts so it could be seen to explode at the end of the episode. Most of the textures were derived from the location, or matched to the reference we had taken whilst on location.
Once the model was complete it was passed over to Qurios who completed around 6 shots for the show, these included an ariel establishing shot of the island, complete with CG guards and birds flying overhead, a view from an approaching boat, and the destruction of the Tower and aftermath as it stands smouldering.

I was very pleased to have been given the opportunity by Niel to work on this show, and on such an unusual location, especially after building spaceships for Hyperdive, this really made a change and had it own challenges.

Check out the Qurios Blog where I'm sure more info on their work for The Outsiders will be getting posted over the next few weeks. http://qurios.blogspot.com/

The Real Location
Victoria Tower, Salisbury Dock, Liverpool. UK.

Salisbury Dock is one of a group of docks opened on the same day in 1848 and all designed by Jesse Hartley - the others being Collingwood, Stanley, Nelson and Bramley-Moore Docks. The Victoria Clock Tower is located at the entrance to Salisbury Dock. As communication routes became more complex in the 19th century the need to know the exact time increased.

HMS Camden Lock - Interior PT 2

I took the interior of the HMS Camden Lock corridor from Hyperdrive that I posted here http://tinyurl.com/o6fp9 and expanded it into another scene, maybe some sort of power station part of the ship. Again just for a bit of fun really.
