Old work - Circa 1985

I may be wrong about the exact date for these 2 but they're sometime in the mid 80's.
The first picture is of a 4 Foot Long 'Super Star Destroyer' from The Empire Strikes Back. I made this model from wood, cardboard, styrene card and a pretty big assortment of kit parts. The model was made for a Star Wars convention that was cancelled at last minute, so I spent 3 months taking up may Mother's kitchen table making this model for nothing, which at the time narked me a fair bit. The model ended up on display at a local Role-Playing Store where after a few months it got dropped, the last time I seen it probably 15 years or more ago it was in a storeroom in pieces. I'd given up caring about it by that point. I never got a great many photo's of the ship, I have a couple of old stills of it under construction and a handful of Black and White pics, this being one of the better ones.

The 2nd pic is my mate Andy Conway under a make-up that I sculpted and then made up as latex appliances, which I painted up and applied. Andy was always my guinea pig, and we did quite a few latex make-up's around this time, he left my parents house one evening around 11.30 and walked home to his house around half a mile away in a burn make-up which I'd spent a few hours applying, it looked great under the street lights, I remember he said he got a great reaction from a bloke who crossed over the road as he seen Andy heading towrds him. I think Andy then went onto to terrify his mother. This make-up we did for a Super 8mm Horror film that we shot some footage for at the time. I do miss a lot of the practical side of stuff like this, it was great fun to do.

Andy's Blog and site are in my Links.

If this is old work, they are very very impressive, at least, to the eyes of a layman like myself.

Hi Tom, I started working with Vue way back at version 2 which was free with 3D World magazine,it was the first 3D programme that I touched and I didn't know hardly anything about PC's. I found it really easy to use even back then,so the answer is I think you'd pick it up just fine !!

Hi Andy, these are really cool, love the super star destroyer, how big was it when finished?

The make-up effect looks good to, the balaclava adds a real nice finishing touch too.

The final model was 4 feet in length.
And the Balaclava was purely to save on having to blend the make-up around the edge of the face :)

Good to see you posting again Jampix !

Thanks to everyone else who's left a comment !

The smell of Glue,Paint,Latex etc... is something I don't miss someday's, especially when I used to work in a small room with them, I'd often feel light heded when I hit the fresh air.

Ha ha ha! Man, I remember the days of algenate, oil clay and plaster - and cinemagic magazine. My teenage years were horrifying for my parents. Heh heh. I love seeing stuff like this.
