Tripods Animation

My first post on this blog back in Jan of 2006 was of this scene. I made the tripod in Vue 2 and Max 3 ages ago, and they weren't rigged for any sort of walking animation. I did this animation I think in Vue 4 and added the lasers in Photoshop to match up with the red glow that is cast onto the barn when the guns fire. These models were pretty much made of just Vue 2 primitives such as cylinders and spheres with the feet being the only bit made in Max 3. Anyway it's a pity they're not really walking but I thought I'd post this old clip anyway !

It's almost more menacing that they aren't walking. Standing their ground and all that. The lasers look great as does the camera movement.

Brilliant Andrew. War of the Worlds is my favourtite book/film/musical of all time. Trevor and I saw Jeff Wayne's musical version at the NEC in Birmingham last April - awesome. Justin Haywood from the Moody Blues was in it AND Russell Watson as the artillery man. Well done my friend.

These are relatives of H.G Wells 'Tripods' better known as John Christopher's 'Tripods' from the 'Tripods Trilogy' that the BBC did an adaptation of in the 80's. Though this model isn't the BBC version.

Looks very threatening, love it, probably would enhance it with the right piece of sound/music

Looks like a machine Dodgy Rodgers would like to move himself around with ;)

Coolness. I love war of the worlds. I've read the book too many times. Always scares the pants of me.

They look familiar. Have you ever posted at 'Eve of the War' forum?

I think I did post this pic or another similar one once at a War of the Worlds forum. This is quite an old pic now.

Tripods make me go googly; ever since I saw that show as a kid. :D

Animating tripods though, I tried that in uni on 3DS Max - hardest thing ever using primitives.
