Hyperdrive - Cybermen Container

I was watching Hyperdrive the other evening, I was skipping channels and noticed it was on, the episode featured the Lemurian Freighter that I made.
I made some posts back in 2006 about this ship Here's post 1 and here's post 2 also I made a post here about the Dark Star bombs that I'd put amongst the cargo as an in joke.
One thing I thought I'd mentioned at the time but didn't was another of the containers was a series of 12 cylinders meant to contain Cybermen from Doctor Who, the containers had the Cyberman logo on that was seen in the classic Tomb of the Cybermen. Of course this was far too small ever to be seen during the actual episode, I just put them there for fun.

Hyperdrive - Starbase 6 - pt 2

Here's some renders of my Starbase 6 model that Niel at Qurios sent over to me, and here's what it looked like in the final show
Sections of this station rotated though that's hard to see in the final show.

This is a better shot of the little hydroponic gardens that the station has.

Hyperdrive - HMS Purley Way & HMS Gower

For Series 2 of BBC 2's SF/Comedy show Hyperdrive I was asked by Niel at Qurios Entertainment to come up with some variations on the 'HMS Camden Lock'. Out of the ones I did these 2 were chosen, they ended up in Episode 6 -Convoy as the 'HMS Purley Way', pictured above, and the 'HMS Gower', below. The 'HMS Purley Way' has the most radical engine design of the 2 craft, this was modified a bit more once the meshes had been handed over to the guys at Qurios.

I made this ship look more like a cargo ship, the towers were inspired by a section of the 'Sulaco' from Aliens. Again this ship went through further alterations at Qurios

Some of the detail was made to be mix and match such as these domes.

Also some football pitches were made for fun, these ended up on the back of the 'HMS Purley Way', though you'd be hard pushed to spot them. For this render it is seen on the back of the 'HMS Camden Lock' maybe if they have home matches it just attaches onto any British Ship.

HMS Camden Lock - Interior Corridor

Seeing as though we're half way through the 2nd series of Hyperdrive here in the UK I thought I'd post this render I did late last year of the interior of the HMS Camden Lock, it's not an exact replica of the interior of the ship from the show, maybe it's an area we haven't seen yet. Oh yeah this isn't used at all in the show, I just did this for fun. Here's links to other renders of the door section of this model I posted a while back.

HMS Camden Lock - Interior PT 2

I took the interior of the HMS Camden Lock corridor from Hyperdrive that I posted here http://tinyurl.com/o6fp9 and expanded it into another scene, maybe some sort of power station part of the ship. Again just for a bit of fun really.

HMS Camden Lock - Prototype

This is the original model I made of the HMS Camden Lock, around a year ago now, when Qurios was first pitching for the work on BBC2's Hyperdrive. This version of the ship sticks more to Andy Riley's original doodle here http://tinyurl.com/g5fzf

I did the majority of the work then passed it onto Niel to do some anims with it, Niel added some more window detail and communication section detail. I did these renders for fun of it as a kit on display. I still like the look of the ship here but much prefer how it evolved into the final version as seen on TV http://tinyurl.com/z4lwq

Virtual Kit Parts

This is an example of some of the digital kit parts I made that were used on some of the CG Ships that I did for BBC 2's Hyperdrive. I have a rather extensive collection of kit parts and junk that I've collected over the years, I dug through the boxes and picked out parts of tanks etc... and made digital versions which I could then use on the ships. A couple of the parts are based on the Dapol Girder Bridge made for OO/HO Scale Railways, this kits been in production for more years than I'd like to estimate and parts were used on some of the Thunderbirds ships in the 1960's and also on the Space 1999 Spaceships as well as the Liberator in Blake's 7.
The parts circled in red are just some sections I modelled out from these bigger pieces of the kit parts.

Airfix HMS Camden Lock

A mate from an alternate dimension sent me his Airfix catalogue from the 70's where it turns out Hyperdrive was a popular Comedy TV show, starring Windsor Davies, Terry Scott, Felicity Kendal and Michael Crawford, it would end with the BBC 'You have been watching' style ending. Anyway Airfix produced a model kit of the HMS Camden Lock the main spaceship from the show. Sadly the dimensional rift between me and my mate has closed for another 10 years otherwise I'd have asked him to get me the kit ! Oh well !!!

Dark Star Bombs

Being a huge fan of Dark Star I decided to sneak Bomb's number 19 & 20 onto the Lemurian Freighter in Episode 5 of Hyperdrive. Photographic reference being to an absolute minimum of the actual miniature I decided the best and quickest way to get the textures for this was to take grabs from the actual DVD, as the chances of this even being seen on the screen were low I figured that would work fine. The actual miniatures made in the ealy 70's were made from a HO Scale piggyback trailer kit and parts of 1/25th scale model car kits. Look at my post Hyperdrive - Lemurian Freighter - Part 2 on Friday Feb 10th and see if you can spot these fellas !

HMS Camden Lock - Interior

I think I started this while making the HMS Camden Lock ship for Hyperdrive, Niel had taken some photo's on set and sent them over to me, when I visited the sets they were still in a state of construction. I did this at the time purely for the fun of it !

Ready for Launch

Towards the end of me finishing the HMS Camden Lock for BBC TV Hyperdrive I put together this pic, I replaced the BT Tower with a render of the Camden Lock and sent it off to Niel at Qurios Entertainment in a mail entitled 'Camden Lock almost ready for launch' I thought the crane already in this pic made a nice touch to what looked liked something on a laumch pad.

Hyperdrive gets 2nd Series !

The BBC Press Office announced yesterday that Hyperdrive will be back for a 2nd Series. See Link http://tinyurl.com/s8jbw
The reaction to the first series appears to have been mixed, but it looks like viewing figures have been good enough for the BBC to let us see the further adventures of the crew of the HMS Camden Lock.

Hyperdrive - HMS Seaton Carew Pt 2

Here's a scan of the article from the Newspaper that Niel sent me over. A few bigger pics of the HMS Seaton Carew,a nice one of it docked with the HMS Camden Lock. I'll post some pics of the model later in the week once the episode has aired !

Hyperdrive - Shuttle Craft

This is the HMS Camden Lock's Shuttle Craft that I designed and built for episode 2 of Hyperdrive. This ship went through a few versions before the shows writers decided they liked this design which I had done. If you look at my post for Friday 20th of Jan you can see some frames from the show of the shuttle leaving the HMS Camden Lock.

Hyperdrive - HMS Seaton Carew

There's a small article in Tonight's 'Hartlepool Mail' talking to Niel Bushnell from Qurios about the HMS Seaton Carew. A ship that I designed and built for Episode 6 of BBC 2's Hyperdrive.

Hyperdrive - Lemurian Freighter - Part 2

This is a pic of the Lemurian Freighter with it's cargo as seen in Hyperdrive Episode 5, the ship I posted yesterday splits and one section docks with the back of the cargo web as the engines, and the other section docks at the front as the command area, the crew member who docks the back section then walks the length of the main centre section to join the rest of the crew at the front part of the ship. Ok maybe he doesn't walk but has a little fold up scooter to ride on :)
The cargo web carries all the cargo containers which clamp to the main frame.
