Gun Turret Animation

I posted some renders of this Gun Turret last June, I knocked together a quick background for it the other day and did this quick animation. I always loved those Battlestar Galactica type defense guns in the 70's show. This was rendered in 3D Studio Max and the lasers comped in Photoshop. Not too sure what it's shooting so wildly at, maybe that's just my duff animation :)

Great animation. I need that thing for bf2. It would lay the smack down on some of those fighter hoes.

Very nice. If Gwen had one of those, her fight against the Garum would be over in a flash.

It sorta reminds me of Babylon 5's guns, but I definitely see the old school Galactica guns.

That's one insane piece of machinery there. I wouldn't wanna be infront of it. I like the textures and lighting!

Allen I wasn't thinking so much of Babylon 5 but I remembered that Sador's'ship in Battle Beyond the Stars has some defensive lasers seen in a few brief shots that were similar to Galctica's

Neat-o-burrito, dude.

"Attention crew"
"Gunner blue six report Immediately to sick bay for Urinalysis and vision check."

Smack down those "Fighter Hoes" indeed, Mac.
What's an armor whore to do?

As you were.
Sgt Major Meatwad69, out!

Cool work you're doing! I know nothing about 3D modeling and the sort. So all this stuff is beyond my comprehension. Wish I knew how to do it.

Battle Beyond the Stars again, when's it coming back on tv? If its not on soon I'll have to actually spend the £2.99 and buy a copy!

Like the guns, the lasers are fun too. You make me want to do another space battle scene.

Michael the US version of Battle Beyond the Stars that I bought a while back has a commentary track by writer John Sayles and Terminator 2 producer Gale Anne Hurd who served as assistant production manager on the film. Cheers for the feedback on this everyone.

Cheers, I'll have a look for the US version on Play. It seems like everybody and their cat was involved in that movie!

It is hard to believe that it's Directed by the same guy who worked on The Snowman and directed When the Wind Blows.

Hi Andrew,

May wait a while before I get the region 1 'battle beyond the stars' dvd, there's a few for sale on Amazon at the moment but the cheapest is £33 - goes up to about £70.

Thats more than the film cost to make!

If you're adding in the lasers in Photoshop, how are you getting the diffuse glow on the gun itself? Like George, I'm curious...

Andrew Glazebrook said...

The guns had lights animated so I knew where to put the beams, they're causing the glow on the gun.
