Desert Matte/Photo Composite Pic

I was really sure I'd posted these ages ago, I found them in my Photobucket folders, I'd certainly posted them on a forum as far back as Dec 05. I wouldn't quite call them Matte Paintings, they're more Photo Montage work done in Photoshop with a 3D Model thrown in. You can see the pics below that went into making the 2 top pictures, most people will recognize Vasquez Rocks, seen in numerous Hollywood films and TV shows, in fact IMDB lists 183 productions that have been shot at this location. List
I was unsure about the wall in the shot so I did 2 versions of the pic, the wall was a quick 3D model that I rendered in Vue 5.

They shot the live action Flinstones film there, and of course everybody remembers it from Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey. Really nice the way you've combined these stills.I like the one with the wall.

You're work is looking really nice! I like the Federation Pursuit Ships a lot! Now that I'm swimming in the 3D world, I'll definitely be here more often.

Hey Andrew
nice images mate!! - good composition and crop - hey would it be worth while airbrushing some cloud/mist type atmospher just at the bottom of those rock structures just to set them back some more and give some more atmosphere to the whole thing - bah - but you finished it ages ago...so who cares LOL!!

Fabulous work Andrew. Wow! I like the wall, but it works both ways. The moons are a nice touch-- give it an other-worldly feel. Great stuff!

Interesting composition Andrew. You have inspired me to try making some scenes in Vue. I got hold of a copy a while ago but never got round to trying it out. I'm rendering my first scene now.

Do you know of any particularly good sites for tutorials?

I know 3D World Magazine has occasionally covered Vue and done some tutorials mainly into the landscape side of the package. I think the best place to look will be www.cornucopia3d.com they have forums up there and I'm sure they have tutorials etc...
