Tie Fighter

For me one of my favourite craft in the Star Wars films is the Tie Fighter.
The first clip I ever seen of Star Wars was the Millenium Falcon escaping from the Death Star and the Tie Fighters attacking. I just loved the design of the ship, those cool black helmets the pilots wore, and that unmistakable sound effect as the fighters flew by. And even though the following films in the original trilogy added new Imperial ships the standard Tie Fighter appeared in all 3 films as one of the main ships in the Imperial navy.
This is a model I made many years ago that I recently dug out and figured I'd do a picture with.

Who doesn't like the tie fighter?! Even now the shape looks original. Great model!

Great Tie Fighter Andrew! I love the sound of them too. Didn't they use the sound of an elephant in there somewhere?

The Tie fighter was my favorite and as a kid, I couldn't wait to get one of the Tie fighter toys for my action figure collection. I was so bummed when I got it and it wasn't scaled right. The side panels were too small.

The Tie you made looks great.

Still holding up quite well from what I can see.

Agree, the tie fighter is great, in the movie and here.

A really neat picture. This would look great with a few more flying over the Death Star surface. Hey Jeff I like your Avatar pic :)

Cheers for the feedback ! I'll eventually get around to doing another pic of this model, probably a Death Star/outer space pic.

Great model and render, it also looks a bit like the 70's die cast one which I still have somewhere.

I made one in woodwork at school. Imagine trying to explain that to our 60 year old teacher.

Andrew Glazebrook said...

Yeah but the Liberator doesn't make that cool sound the Tie Fighter does !!

I think I've mentioned before, that whole bunch of ships from the original Star Wars trilogy are just so well designed, and a lot of the ships from around that whole cinema era !!

Ace model Andrew. It was the falcon for me. The shot when it goes around a cloud and flips over. Ooooh!

Have you seen these scans of old Top Trump cards?

Waddingtons have rather cheekily used Vader's TIE fighter, called it a "Racing Falcon" and printed it upside down.

And don't even get me started on what they've done with the Nostromo's refinery.

Columbus Space Colony? If Jim Smash found out, he'd detonate.

Right, I'm off to see Jim Smash.
