Deployment Strategy - Police Transport

This is a vehicle that started it's life as a model for a certain BBC S/F Comedy that I worked on, anyway it got replaced by another model I made ,so waste not want not it's now being converted into a Police Transport for Mark Cheng's Deployment Strategy. Still a fair bit of modelling work and some adjustments to be made, oh and texture work.

Tripod - Work in progress

This is the Tripod model that I'm making at the moment.I've just got a bit of work to do on this before I send it off to my mate to rig and animate.

This is not mean't to be a War of the Worlds tripod, but one of the tripods featured in the John Christopher The Tripods Trilogy, which the BBC turned into a TV series in the 80's and is also in development as a Trilogy of films.

Hyperdrive gets 2nd Series !

The BBC Press Office announced yesterday that Hyperdrive will be back for a 2nd Series. See Link http://tinyurl.com/s8jbw
The reaction to the first series appears to have been mixed, but it looks like viewing figures have been good enough for the BBC to let us see the further adventures of the crew of the HMS Camden Lock.

Hyperdrive - HMS Seaton Carew Pt 2

Here's a scan of the article from the Newspaper that Niel sent me over. A few bigger pics of the HMS Seaton Carew,a nice one of it docked with the HMS Camden Lock. I'll post some pics of the model later in the week once the episode has aired !

Hyperdrive - Shuttle Craft

This is the HMS Camden Lock's Shuttle Craft that I designed and built for episode 2 of Hyperdrive. This ship went through a few versions before the shows writers decided they liked this design which I had done. If you look at my post for Friday 20th of Jan you can see some frames from the show of the shuttle leaving the HMS Camden Lock.

Hyperdrive - HMS Seaton Carew

There's a small article in Tonight's 'Hartlepool Mail' talking to Niel Bushnell from Qurios about the HMS Seaton Carew. A ship that I designed and built for Episode 6 of BBC 2's Hyperdrive.

Hyperdrive - Lemurian Freighter - Part 2

This is a pic of the Lemurian Freighter with it's cargo as seen in Hyperdrive Episode 5, the ship I posted yesterday splits and one section docks with the back of the cargo web as the engines, and the other section docks at the front as the command area, the crew member who docks the back section then walks the length of the main centre section to join the rest of the crew at the front part of the ship. Ok maybe he doesn't walk but has a little fold up scooter to ride on :)
The cargo web carries all the cargo containers which clamp to the main frame.

Hyperdrive - Lemurian Freighter

This is the front cab and engine section from the 'Lemurian Freighter' seen in Episode 5 of Hyperdrive. Although it wasn't seen like this in the show I designed the ship to be able to split into 2 sections and dock together when not hauling the huge cargo frame. I'll be posting a pic of the whole rig later.

UFO

This UFO model sat in a folder on my PC for quite a while, now it has been given a purpose. It is being used in a short 6-7 minute UFO movie titled Invasion that is currently being made by Daniel Broadway. You can see the trailer in the link below. The UFO I made is seen in 2 brief shots in this trailer. I'm sure it'll feature more once Daniel has finished his short. Nice to see the model finally getting some use.

More pics from the movie can be seen at this link too http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=316082

Humanoid - Claw Ship

A bit of a difference from the HMS Camden Lock made for Hyperdrive, this CG Model is based on the Claw Ship that is used to catch Richard Kiel's character Golob in the Italian Sci-Fi film The Humanoid, I only had frame grabs to work from provided by my mate Gonz who runs The Humanoid site I posted about yesterday. The films miniatures were built by Armando Valcauda and Paolo Zeccara, and I'm not quite sure what they were thinking when they designed such a strange ship. It's pretty cheap and cheerful looking in the movie and it really looks like they've used any pretty much any Airfix model part that was to hand. So this is more a representation of the ship rather than an accurate copy !

Hyperdrive - HMS Camden Lock

Now everybody has seen Hyperdrive, and if you haven't then why not, I thought I'd post these pics of the HMS Camden Lock model that I built for the show.If you check my post on January the 12th you can see Andy Riley's original concept art for this ship. It's registration number XH558 is actually that of the Royal Airforces 'Avro Vulcan Bomber' and was suggested by the shows writers Andy Riley and Kevin Cecil. The ship looks quite different without all of it's lights that were added by Qurios who did the shows FX, but this was to show you just the model as I delivered it to them for use in Hyperdrive. These pics show the docking towers extended, most of the time they were retracted into the ship. It was nice that I only had to build one of the eight engines and the others could be copied around. I'm not 100% sure if we see the main central engine in use, they haven't used it so far, but it was mean't to be a, I suppose Hyperdrive engine, so I'm not quite sure where the Hyperdrive in the shows title comes from if we haven't seen them use this engine. The shows original title was going to be Full Power.

The Humanoid Website

In 1979 an Italian Sci-Fi movie was released L'Umanoide or The Humanoid as it was known in the UK and U.S was Directed by Aldo Lado under the pseudonym of George B.Lewis. I think he was trying to sound like George Lucas.

The film starred Richard Kiel 'Jaws' of 007 fame, and was full of Space Battles, Aliens, Robots etc... I remember seeing this with my brother at the local Odeon and enjoying it lots. Many years later I got to see it on VHS and it wasn't quite the movie I remembered, the FX were cheap, the acting was corny amongst a long list of other problems it had, but I became a fan of this movie all over again for completely different reasons. Bad movies can be good !

A mate has set up a site dedicated to not only The Humanoid but to Italian and Low Budget Cult Sci-Fi movies, whose titles include Galaxy of Terror,Ragewar,Forbidden World,Lifeforce,Laserblast,The Titan Find,Planet of the Vampires,War in Space to name but a few.

Gonz who runs the site has managed to track down many of the cast and crew of these movies and has some rare behind the scenes FX pics etc... that have been sent to him. So if you like your movies cheap and cheerful check out his site in the links at the side of the page.
