Launch Tube - work in progress

I started this a day or so ago. When complete it's going to be the launch tube for my Orange Spaceship. Again I loved all that late 70's early 80's Sci-Fi like Battlestar Galactica and Buck Rogers in the 25th Century where we seen spaceships launched or flying down launch tunnels etc... Not too sure which way the bay doors will open when I add them or if the bay needs any doors, any suggestions would be appreciated. Still got a lot of work to add to this. There's a small control room in the bottom picture that'll be illuminated. I suppose this section is a small area of a larger ship or space station.
Oh yeah still not 100% sure about the size of this ship to a person, at the moment it's bigger than a fighter, more of a 2 or 3 man ship though I think in the final scene the ship will be around 20 -30% smaller than seen here.
Cheers for looking.

I've taken the You Tube video down that I posted as it was very dark and didn't really do the job it was intended to do. I'll post a new one once more work is done.

Hey Andrew! Yeah, this is looking pretty sweet already!

Love the shape of the docking bay...but I always thought that the orange ship was more like the size of a two story bus.

Seeing the ship, the turret and this docking bay really makes me want to shoot a purely SCI-FI movie. What an inspiration!

Wow you are a master of renders and modeling!

Allen, that's why I'll be reducing it in size somewhat. I think because I built the ship without a visible cockpit, kind of like the 'Blake's 7' Federation Pursuit Ships, it makes it harder to pin down a scale for it. But I'd say it would be bigger than just a one man fighter, this might be kind of a 3 man ship like the Cylon Raider in the original 'Battlestar Galactica' show. I'd love to do kind of a retro 70's 80's sci-fi movie with good guys vs bad !! :) Dave and Adam cheers for the comments ! :)

That would be cool. The cylon ship of the old BSG was great...and it was just a disc! I thought that it was curious that three cylons in a ship could still get out gunned by one man in a ship.

Great details Andrew! You should totally make a sci-fi movie, I would give you the money if I had it ;)

Keep rocking..

Like where you're going with the launch tube, its always a fun thing. The orange spaceship is great, it would make a cool toy too. I can imagine it with flashing gun lights and electronic sounds.

Andrew Glazebrook said...

Although I do like the shiny aspect of this ship I think I'm going to keep the colour scheme but texture it with panels that have a weathered look to them to take away some of the toy like appearance that you mention Michael.

awesome.
I really like the grand scale of this model/environment.

you definitely have the right feel going to the design.

Sorry Andrew,

Didn't mean to sound like I was taking the piss out of your model, I just think it would make an ace toy. More the sort Forbidden Planet sell than Woolworths.

We were thinking of making the attack ships from The Planet into card fold out models, but after 3 of us spent 4 hours making 5 Dr Who card models on Mark's birthday we kinda went off the idea. the dalek looks like a cake!

looking great!! When i saw the small thumbnails, I thought you had modelled everything for real. With clay. The detail is fantastico!

Michael,I was thinking of texturing this model eventually, the colour scheme is going to be the same but the ship will have a more paneled look, I thought just having the plain colours looked OK but I wanted a slightly grittier feel to the model anyway.

Scott, I wish Wilma was going out with me :)

Cheers Brent and Ken and all who've commented ! :)

Much more Battlestar than what I was originally thinking when I saw it (Space 1999), but that was because Martin Landau would never be seen in an ORANGE spaceship. Superb work, Glazy ... I'd say keep it up, but you don't show any signs of slowing down!!

Will this be in a TV programme or film of some sort?

Chuang, this isn't for anything special, just something I'm working on now and then !!

Hey Andrew,

I think this stuff is really well done! my Father and I loved watching Buck Rogers and original Battlestar Galactica! I would also fully encourage you to make a sci-fi movie, especially if it looks as good as going now.

keep up the good work!

Thanks all for the feedback, I'm hoping to have some more of this done in the next few days, been busy on something else which I'll try and post later or tomorrow. I'd make a film if I had a script, a crew, some actors and some money. And could get Erin Grey to appear ! :)

Wow !! This is so wicked,I love all those old 80's shows, I have a lot of them on DVD and they're great fun.I really like what you've done with this model,it looks almost like a plastic kit.

Andrew Glazebrook said...

It's a shame they don't just run these shows on BBC 2 like they used to, I have Battlestar Galactica and Buck Rogers on DVD !
