Police Transport - Miniature

I had word of Mark Cheng the other day, the director of Deployment Strategy, he put me in touch with Prop and Model Maker Brian Thone, as Brian is interested in turning my Police Transport craft that I made for the film into an actual real world model. Brian told me he will be designing the inner structure and supports in Corel Draw 12 and having all the parts cut out on a laser. He will then assemble the parts and begin to fill and skin the model until the desired shape is achieved. Once done, he will ad all the final details and mold it in silicone or fiberglass. Depending on the size it is made up to be.

This will be so cool, seeing my CG model turned into one or more real miniatures. Anyway I've send Brian over a whole bunch of orthagraphic renders and other stuff to help him along with his project, Brian is currently working on a half studio scale Battlestar Galactica (3 feet) and this is being built up in the same process.

I'll keep you all updated as soon as I get word off Brian.

This really is a super cool vehicle. I love the rust and scarring. To see one of my drawings produced in reality would be a real thrill. Congrats on that.

Do you know if the model is going to be weathered like this or will it be a "new" vehicle?

I'm not 100% sure if Brian is going to follow my CG paint job exact, I suppose if it's a blank kit you could paint whatever you wanted, I always thought this same ship would make a cool Emergency Vehicle or Military Vehicle also, I suppose it could be a nice basis for conversions !

Is the three foot model of the Galactica the old one or the new one? Hopefully the new. I actually made a few sculptures of characters and the CG stuff for my effects team, but to have someone ask to build a model... that's an honor.

My seven year old, Max, just asked if he could buy one when it's done.

Allen, I believe it's the old Galactica that he's building, regarding buying the Police Transport when it's made I'll pass over the comments to Brian, I'm not 100% sure if they'll be for sale or what they might cost, if I find any info I'll be sure to post it, but it's very early still regarding this project as far as Brian informs me,so it might be a while before there's any real news about the model.

It would be neat as a Die-Cast toy as well.

hey andrew, i'm totally excited about this too!! if you guys haven't seen Brian's work, you gotta check it out. He's the Yin to Andrew's Yang- both guys did such awesome work for the film- perfectly balanced in different mediums. You can see Brian's "Multibody" on this page of my site:
